The plane touched down at Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1 at around 3 plus. There was a long queue at the customs as terminal 1 is currently undergoing some renovations.
Once I was out of customs and retrieved my luggage, I went to buy a SIM card so I could call home. The booths can be easily found outside the arrival gates, and I chose "Taiwan DaGeDa". It wasn't very expensive, costing around SGD15 for a 2 hours calling sim card. They also have SIM cards catered for unlimited data plans.
Since it was newly renovated, in order to take FreeGo bus to XiMenDing (XMD) where my hotel was, I proceeded downstairs using the lift. It was quite comfortable buying the ticket and waiting for the bus as there were seats indoors while waiting for the bus. It was like a bus interchange. The bus came shortly, and the journey to the city took around 1 hour. Just let the bus driver know which hotel you are staying at, and he will drop you off somewhere near your hotel in XiMenDing. This is the cheapest form of transport from the airport to XMD.
After checking in, I went to look for some dinner and stumbled upon an unassuming Japanese restaurant at XMD. It was very old-fashioned style Japanese restaurant and apparently it has a very long history.
After looking through the menu, I decided to order something safe... curry katsu!
The plate was huge, and it was a very fulfilling dinner. This was about 150NT and it came with a nice cup of hot tea that was really suitable for the cold weather. After that, I walked around XMD and was feeling a little tired... so journeyed off to Family Mart (24 hours convenience shop) to buy my supply of mineral water (30NT for 2 litres). I also bought a bottle of milk tea, and I bought it mainly because of the outlook. It was a very nice looking bottle!
I slept early as I wanted to start my day early tomorrow...
